What separates great photographers from good ones ????

Recently I had this conversation with one of my photographer friend which revolved around the question - What really makes a great photographer stand out from a good photographer…
It really made me think of how you can really judge someone like that.
I put down my views like this -
I believe it’s a combination of technique and an eye for creativity (and also the ability to draw emotions out of your subjects).
That’s what makes a great photographer.

A good photographer may know all the techniques, may know his camera really well, he knows how to experiment differently by using different techniques and settings.
How is the light going to affect the image, what flash you should use and all those sort of things…
It’s basically he is really strong on his technical part.
But in spite of knowing everything well and doing all the hard work if the image does not speak its all in vain. I mean if your image does convey whatever you have clicked on its own  it’s just another added space on your computer nothing else.

On the other hand a great photographer might not be knowing all the technical stuff in details but knows how to capture the moment. His images speak for themselves.

Its actually you should get connected with your subject immediately once you know what you want to click. All this has to be in you.. no one can come and teach you- ya’ this can be a great picture please click it this way. You yourself should have it in you to grasp with the surrounding and your subject to come out with some amazing results.

As I have said it before it’s a intersection of both the things.. knowing the technical stuff well enough and also having that ability to click at the right moment.

Because, in the end only those fraction of seconds when you click, are really the most precious and treasured seconds which  make you famous.

Photography an Art or Technology..???

Don’t know but in a kind of a debate mood. And I suppose this is the right topic to debate upon.
Few days back a friend gave me a book to read – Photography: A critical Introduction. It’s a book where issues and debates in photographic theory and history are talked upon. A book where documentary photography and photojournalism is discussed. Where, photography as an art is explained. And a book to be read by all photography lovers who think they know, who understand and who want to understand this art deeply.
Now, back to the main subject what we have here, takes us back to the 19th century. One of the most debated topics ofthe 19th and the 20th century by critics all over the world.
People knew it was already a technological advancement but how far was it considered as an art ??
It takes us back to as early as in 1859 where a French poet-critic Charles Baudelaire stated –“ if photography is allowed to deputize for art in some of art’s activities, it will not be long before it has supplanted or corrupted the art altogether.” Where he was so against accepting photography as an art that he had already published over 500 articles in the French daily ‘La Lumiere.’
On the other hand…
Eastlake a very famous photography critic who is known for her photographs as well as her articles stated that – ‘photography was the new form of communication between man and man..’
In 1863… Howard a famous artist of his time had his own views regarding this debateful topic. He said it’s killing the livelihood of the portraiture artists. His views were like- where a painter takes so many hours of hard work to sketch and paint a person’s portrait it’s done by the photographer in hardly 5 minutes. This statement of his really made me think a lot by both the ways, but at the end landed up with no good conclusion. Because, being a painter I do understand how much of patience, accuracy and hard work it goes in making a portraiture painting. And being a photographer as well I also understand the value of clicking a good portraiture and the study which goes behind it and what’s the output going to be. I think this article is going to tickle my brains for a lot of days now.
Moving forward in the 1960’s to the 1990’s people had virtually started understanding photography. The mob started to understand how important it can be for many social issues. How the world can get connected through this medium. But, the main aspect as an art had been left behind.
Where paintings and other art forms were reaching different heights day by day this beautiful art of photographing couldn’t match up with them. It was not until the late 1990’s people started appreciating photography as an art with the new camera technology coming up and the “strange way of clicking pictures coming into picture” people had started to love this form of art.
If we talk about the last decade, photography has evolved on a major scale. It has changed the man’s view of looking towards life and nature. It has made a big impact on many major issues throughout the world. People have understood it’s just not buying a camera and clicking random stuff but it’s a very deep art indeed.
Some day’s back I was reading this article about art photographers in the newspaper. The article talked about two famous art photographers in India and how they manage all odds and become what they are today. One of the photographers also mentioned where his photographs used to fetch him around 40k-80k some 12 years back, the amount has scaled new heights to his surprise as off talking  today. I mean I’m really happy to see, read and hear how this art is coming up and day by day and people understanding it. If you’re interested in photography and your parents say no to it, tell them to read this next line.
Photography is just not clicking passport size photos, not clicking on family holidays but is a very beautiful and deep form of art. It’s not really simple to click those amazing wallpapers you have because you seriously don’t know how much of hard work has gone behind that picture worth making a wallpaper for your computer.
As I have come to an end for this article I still have my mind confused over this topic. No matter how much I accept it and know it’s an art form, somewhere down in those thought I feel why not accept it as a great achievement in the technological area.
I don’t know. But here I leave up to you to decide whether photography is an art or a technology..???
But in the process of your thinking don’t forget to click and hear that beautiful sound of the shutter.
Cheerrrsss till then …J

Natural Light...

Imagine one day you get up and there is no sun..
I mean have you ever thought how important light is to us. Just give it a thought or just let your wild imagination come out and think our life without the sun, or say without the natural light. Don’t know about you but surely I won’t be able to live.
I mean how someone can live without the natural sun light.
Your life practically, frankly and totally depends upon the natural sun light.
The same is the case with photography. I mean no matter how many artificial lights you put on, to make the picture look as natural as possible, you won’t possibly get the result what you would have got through the natural light.
I’m not saying, make all the studios open air, there you have to use the artificial lights to click a good picture. But, observe most of the professional photographers will use as much of natural light and surrounding as possible for their campaigns.
You just can’t beat the natural light pictures to any other light source. That’s why I say – that no one can give as much as the nature gives you J
To my knowledge till date Mr. Vincent Versace and ace natural light photographer is the best example to learn and observe from his pictures. The way he has used the natural light and the way he has focused on his subject is a great art in itself.
After reading this post till what I have written till now, I think in the near future no studio light company is going to provide me with any lights, by smashing the door on my face, they will only have to say-  go make your studio in the open field.  J
Its not that im against artificial light source. There are some types or campaigns where you don’t have any other option to get a good picture. But, to a extent where the nature is giving us this unlimited source why don’t we use it to the max and not waste our fossil fuels. Why don’t people understand and make use of what is available to them free and as well as unlimited, because these are the only two words people die to hear these days.

So, then just wildly wandering around here and there.. try and click pictures which involves natural light in it. Trust me they will be outstanding..
Keep clicking and don’t forget the beautiful noise of the shutter..

P.S - Im going to ask my one of my friends who is into music.. if its possible to record the sound of the shutter and make some music out of it..  I know it’s a weird and a wild idea but then at the end of the day its me… THE WILD WANDERER….

Genres of Photography......

The picture which I have clicked above was with serious luck. The bug is a very irritating insect, specifically if you have to shoot him. Doesn’t like to stay at one place like me. “Which does not mean I’m irritating..” J  but then cheers to him for giving me that pose and a stunning photo for my collection.

It’s a family holiday.. your clicking pictures of whatever your eye catches. People around you, different and new places, you yourself posing in all kinds of different positions. Sometimes you may see photographs in the news-paper, or in the magazines. Your favorite actors/actresses…
Or seeing those beautiful wild-life photographs.. !!
At the end of the day a majority of people might only know handful types of photography.
But in reality there are more than 25 types..
Stunneddddd !!!  J
Every picture you click is categorized in a specific type, a specific category.

just the starting..

some days back someone told me that you should imagine what your going to click before clicking anything. or say you should compose all that what you have to click. but, what if i say that i'll click and then i'll name it.

in my words photography is such a field where you have the freedom like a bird has to fly anyhwhere he wants to at anytime. you have that kind of freedom to click what ever you love, all that you hate, to cheerish those memories, to get someone going or just for the sake of that shutter sound.

i created this blog to let out my wild ideas come out. and as i have named it.. THE WILD WANDERER.. it completely reflects my identity.. it shows who im.. i love to click on the move .. nothing specific at all.. !

so here im THE WILD WANDERER..
and at the end just that lovely heart stopping sound of the shutter.. "CLICK"
